Who Is Rhysand In House Of Sky And Breath

Okay, let's talk about Rhysand. Yes, THAT Rhysand. We all know him. Some of us... love him. Others are maybe a bit... over it. I'm here to offer a possibly unpopular opinion about his role in House of Sky and Breath (Crescent City #2).

Rhysand: The Guest Star?

Look, I get it. He's the High Lord of the Night Court. He's powerful. He's broody. He's got those wings. But honestly, in House of Sky and Breath, he's basically making a cameo. Like that band your friend swore was going to be HUGE, and then they played for five minutes in that one episode of your favorite show.

We get the dramatic entrance, the knowing glances, the cryptic warnings. It's classic Rhysand. But does he REALLY do anything that drastically impacts the main plot? I'm not convinced.

He pops in, drops a few hints that are about as subtle as a neon sign, and then vanishes back into the shadows, leaving Bryce and Hunt to figure things out. It's like he's saying, "Good luck, kids! I'd help, but I have a court to rule! And a mate to... you know."

Is He Even Necessary?

This is where things get dicey. I dare to ask: Could the story have progressed perfectly fine without him? I think so! Bryce and Hunt are capable. They’re resourceful. They’re literally fighting for their lives (and the lives of everyone they care about). They don't need Rhysand swooping in to give them a pep talk.

Unpopular opinion: Maybe Sarah J. Maas just needed to remind everyone he exists. Like a little "Hey, remember this guy? Still dreamy!" moment.

Maybe I'm being harsh. But after all the build-up of his appearance, I expected more. I wanted him to be integral to the mystery, actively involved in unraveling the secrets of the Asteri and the connection between Prythian and Midgard. Instead, he felt like a plot device more than a character.

The Tease is Real

Of course, his appearance does tease us with the bigger picture. The crossover potential! The potential for epic team-ups! But it's a tease, folks. We're left wanting more, and that's probably the point. Maas is a master of suspense, after all.

But still, I can't help feeling a little let down. It's like ordering a pizza and finding out it's mostly crust. Delicious crust, mind you, but where's the pepperoni? Where's the cheese?

A Bit of Overkill?

Maybe I’m being too critical. Maybe I’m just jealous of Feyre. (Kidding… mostly.) But the whole scene just felt a little forced. Like Maas knew she had to include him because the fans demanded it (we all did), but she wasn't entirely sure how to organically weave him into the narrative.

It's like when your favorite celebrity makes a cameo in a movie, and you're excited to see them, but their role is so small it feels pointless. You're left wondering, "Why bother?"

In Conclusion: A Pretty Face and Wings

Ultimately, Rhysand in House of Sky and Breath is… well, he's Rhysand. He's handsome. He's mysterious. He has wings. But his role is ultimately small. Let's just say I'm hoping for a more substantial appearance next time around. More action, less brooding. More pepperoni, less crust.

What do you think? Am I completely off base? Let me know! But be gentle. I’m bracing myself for the Rhysand stans.
