Okay, let's talk about Lancer from Fate/Zero. He’s the guy with the twin spears, remember? And, dare I say it, maybe a little bit unlucky? I’m putting it mildly here!
The Basics: Who's This Blue Bro?
Officially, he’s Diarmuid Ua Duibhne. Sounds fancy, right? He's a legendary Irish hero, brought back to fight in the Grail War.
He’s summoned by Kayneth Archibald El-Melloi. Kayneth's a bit of a jerk, let's be honest. Poor Diarmuid gets stuck with him.
Must Read
The Loyal Servant (to a Fault)
Lancer is all about honor. He’s a super-loyal guy. Like, puppy-dog loyal.
He's bound by his sense of duty. Even when his master is a grade-A tool, he soldiers on. Seriously, dude needs a better agent.
But that honor becomes his downfall, right?
The Love Triangle That Wasn't Really a Triangle
Then there’s Saber. And that cursed beauty mark of Diarmuid.

Kayneth accuses Lancer of seducing his fiancée, Sola-Ui Nuada-Re Sophia-Ri. Whoa, that's a mouthful! Talk about unrequited love and forbidden attraction.
Honestly, I think Sola-Ui just liked the attention. And maybe those eyes of Diarmuid. Can you blame her?
The "Unpopular" Opinion: He's Kind of…Boring?
Here's where I might lose some of you. Buckle up!
I think Lancer is…a little bland. Fight me!

Hear me out! He's honorable, loyal, skilled… and kind of one-dimensional. He is too serious!
He's Just Too Honorable!
Everyone else in Fate/Zero is scheming, backstabbing, or delightfully crazy. They are complicated characters.
Then there's Lancer. He’s just trying to do the right thing. Bo-ring!
Is that really interesting? I am not sure!
But Wait, There's More! The Tragedy Angle
Okay, okay, I get it. His tragedy is a big part of his appeal. And he’s very handsome, of course!

He's doomed from the start. He's cursed by his own sense of honor.
Plus, the whole love triangle situation is a train wreck. You just can’t look away, right?
The Final Verdict: Lovable Loser?
So, who is Lancer really? He’s a tragic hero.
He's a skilled warrior stuck in a bad situation. He has a terrible boss.

Maybe he’s not the most exciting character. But he is important! Even if he needs a good lawyer.
A Character With Depths
Okay, I am admitting it. There is a lot to like about Lancer. His character has depths!
He is the guy who always tries to do what is right. He can be a very compelling character.
So, yeah, maybe he's not boring. But he sure does need a vacation after this whole ordeal!
So, what do you think? Is Lancer secretly awesome? Or am I right that he needs to dial down the honor a notch? Let's discuss!
