Tvtropes Honest Hearts Reborn

Okay, let's talk Honest Hearts. You know, that Fallout: New Vegas DLC? The one with the burning man and the Mormons? Yeah, that one.
Most folks seem to really dig it. The setting's beautiful, Zion Canyon and all. Joshua Graham is, undeniably, a cool dude. And the tribal lore is… well, lore-y. But I've got a confession to make. An unpopular one.
I find it… kinda boring. There. I said it.
Must Read
Now, before you grab your torches and pitchforks, hear me out. I'm not saying it's bad. It’s just… underwhelming. Compared to, say, the mind-bending craziness of Old World Blues, or the tense atmosphere of Dead Money, Honest Hearts feels a little… vanilla.
And yes, I know, Zion Canyon is gorgeous. All those red rocks and canyons. It's like a postcard. But after a while, every vista starts to look the same. You're running around, shooting geckos, admiring the scenery… then running around some more.

The quests? Fetch quests galore! Find this. Kill that. Talk to him. The pacing feels… off. Like you're just going through the motions. I mean, remember all that hype about Joshua Graham? The Burned Man? He's supposed to be this terrifying figure, a legend whispered around campfires.
But then you meet him, and he's… reasonable. Surprisingly reasonable, actually. Which is great, I guess, if you're into reasonable villains who have had bad things happen to them. But I was expecting something… more. Maybe a little more fire? (Pun intended, of course.)
And then there's the tribals. The Sorrows and the Dead Horses. They're interesting in theory. Different cultures, different beliefs. But in practice? They're just dudes with spears who occasionally try to shank you. I never really connected with them the way I connected with, say, the Think Tank scientists in Old World Blues, or even Dog/God in Dead Money.

The whole "protect the tribals" thing also felt… clunky. Like I was babysitting. “Oh no, the White Legs are attacking! Better rush over there and save little Johnny Sorrow!” It just wasn't as engaging as the challenges presented in the other DLCs.
Let's not forget the White Legs. The bad guys. The moustache-twirling, raider-wannabe bad guys. Their whole schtick is that they're savage and cruel. Okay, we get it. They're bad. Now can we move on?

Don't get me wrong, there are good things about Honest Hearts. The new weapons are fun. Some of the perks are useful. And the ending choices, while not earth-shattering, do have some weight to them. But overall, it just feels like a missed opportunity.
Maybe I went in with too high expectations. Maybe I was just in the wrong mood. Or maybe, just maybe, Honest Hearts is a little bit overrated.
So, that's my unpopular opinion. What's yours? Don’t be shy. Tell me why I'm wrong (or right!) in the comments. Let's have a civil discussion. Or, you know, just hurl insults. Whatever floats your boat.

Because let's be honest, we all have that one piece of beloved media everyone else adores, but you just… don't get it.
And for me? That piece, in the Fallout: New Vegas universe, is Honest Hearts.
