To Very Special Grandson Happy Valentines Day Grandson

To Very Special Grandson Happy Valentines Day Grandson

Okay, okay, hear me out. Valentine's Day is looming.

Roses are wilting at the grocery store (probably already!), and chocolate hearts are whispering sweet nothings from every shelf.

But let's be honest, is anyone really excited about it?

The Grandson Factor: An Unpopular Opinion

Here's where things get interesting. I have a grandson, a very special grandson. And you know what?

I think sending him a Valentine's Day card is perfectly acceptable.

Gasp! I know, I know. Some might say it's weird. Some might clutch their pearls and whisper about the "true meaning" of the holiday.

But I say, poppycock!

Valentine's Day: It's Evolving, People!

Valentine's Day started as something historical, a celebration of Saint Valentine. Now it is big business and also, a celebration of love.

But somewhere along the line, it became...complicated. Reserved only for romantic love. And I think that's a shame.

Why can't we spread the love around? Why can't we shower our grandson with a little affection on this day of hearts and flowers?

He is a good kid.

The Benefits Are Undeniable (Probably)

Think about it. A little Valentine's Day card could brighten his day. Might even score me some extra grandson points.

And let's face it, who doesn't love getting mail that isn't a bill? Especially from Grandma or Grandpa.

It shows you're thinking of them, even if it's just a silly little card with a cartoon dog on it.

Maybe he'll even think I'm cool. Okay, probably not. But a grandma can dream, right?

Addressing the Naysayers (With a Wink)

"But it's romantic!" they cry. "You can't send a Valentine to your grandson!"

To that, I say, lighten up! My love for my grandson is a deep, abiding, unconditional love.

It's the kind of love that makes me want to bake him cookies, even when he tracks mud through the house. The kind of love that makes me burst with pride at his school plays, even if he forgets his lines.

It's not romantic love. It's grandparent love. And that's a pretty special thing in itself.

The Card: What to Write

Okay, so you're on board (maybe). But what do you write in the card?

Keep it simple. Keep it sweet. And for goodness sake, keep it appropriate!

Avoid anything remotely suggestive. This isn't the time to reminisce about his cute baby bottom. Trust me.

Something like: "To my very special grandson, Happy Valentine's Day! Love, Grandma/Grandpa."

Add a little inside joke if you have one. Maybe a reference to his favorite video game. He’ll love that.

Personalize it! Show him you put some thought into it.

The Verdict? Go For It!

So, my (possibly) controversial opinion? Send that Valentine's Day card to your grandson.

Spread the love. Embrace the silliness. And ignore anyone who tells you it's weird.

Because let's be honest, a little bit of extra love in the world never hurt anyone, right?

Plus, who knows, maybe he'll send you one back! (Okay, probably not, but still…)

And if all else fails, you can always blame it on your age. "Oh, I'm just a silly old grandma!" Works every time.

Happy Valentine's Day, everyone. Even the grumpy ones. Especially my grandson!
