Tasha's Optional Class Features

Alright, gather 'round, adventurers! Let's talk about something that's been shaking up D&D tables more than a poorly timed Fireball: Tasha's Optional Class Features. You know, those little nuggets of extra awesome buried within Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, just waiting to be unearthed and crammed into your character like extra garlic in a pizza.
Basically, Wizards of the Coast decided that some classes felt a little…vanilla. Like plain oatmeal without the brown sugar, nuts, or even a sprinkle of cinnamon. So, they gave us these optional features to spice things up. Think of it as D&D's version of adding Sriracha to everything. You might not need it, but it definitely makes things more interesting.
The Barbarian: From Angry to Even More Angry
Our favourite rageaholics get some fun new toys. One of the best? Primal Knowledge. Suddenly, your Barbarian isn't just smashing things – they can also become surprisingly insightful. Need to know the local customs? BAM! Barbarian has got you covered. Who knew all that head-butting could unlock ancient wisdom? I suspect that it unlocked the wisdom of “How to hit harder” and that is just how the Barbarian rationalized it.

And then there's Instinctive Pounce. Because sometimes, you just need to get into the fray faster. Who needs strategy when you can just launch yourself like a hairy, axe-wielding projectile? It is an effective strategy in most cases. As long as the Barbarian is fighting, their plan is working.
The Bard: More Than Just a Flute Player
Okay, let's be honest, sometimes the Bard gets a bad rap. But with Tasha's options, they become powerhouses. The big one here is Additional Magical Secrets at level two. What this allows you to do is pluck spells from other classes' lists, meaning you can make a Bard that feels unique, and powerful from the start! And not just the level 10 Magical Secrets.
And who can forget Bardic Versatility? Swapping out skills or spells on a long rest? That’s like having a magical wardrobe change for your abilities. Need to be sneaky instead of charismatic? No problem! Bardic Versatility has you covered. It is like the ultimate class for indecisive players!

The Cleric: Divine Versatility!
Even the direct messengers of the gods get new tricks. Harness Divine Power lets you burn a Channel Divinity to regain a spell slot. Need to cast another Cure Wounds to keep your party alive after the Barbarian's "strategic" charge? No problem! Turn that unused divine power into magical healing energy!
Blessed Strikes. Replaces Divine Strike. A small change, but one that makes your damage type more consistent. Rather than being tied to weapon attacks (often the hardest part of a Cleric build) you can now use a spell attack, which suits the design of the class much better.
The Druid: From Tree Hugger to...Even More Tree Hugger?
The Druid gets some nice buffs too. Wild Companion lets you summon a familiar with Wild Shape. This means that the Druid has a new tool to use on exploration, or just to scout ahead (before turning into a bear).
Plus, Druidic Versatility! Druids are just a spell-swapping machine. If you are playing a Wildfire Druid, Burning Hands is not for you at level 10. Change it out with a higher-level spell!

The Fighter: More Maneuvers, More Fun
Our stalwart warriors benefit greatly. The Superior Technique fighting style is amazing. You get a maneuver, and can use it with a d6. Add this to Action Surge, and you can be a force to be reckoned with.
Martial Versatility is another winner! On level up, switch out a fighting style! You can be a master of Archery one level, and Two-Weapon fighting the next! Do you need to be a tank? Great Weapon Fighting it is! The fighter's versatility makes them feel like masters of combat.
The Monk: Ki-Fueled Attack!
Finally, some real love for the Monk. Ki-Fueled Attack lets you make a free weapon attack after spending ki on a spell! Monks are already mobile, so now they can move, cast a spell, and attack with ease.
Finally, Dedicated Weapon. This is so good that it should be core! You can now turn any weapon into a monk weapon. No longer are monks tied to shortswords, daggers, and staves. Use anything, and become the ultimate fighter.

The Paladin: Oath-Breaking Flexibility
The Paladin is a great class that gets slightly better. You get Fighting Style Versatility just like the Fighter, meaning you can change up your fighting style at level up! This can be good, or bad, if you are an Oathbreaker Paladin. It means that you are an indecisive Oathbreaker!
The Ranger: A Second Chance At Life
Oh, the Ranger. The class that everyone loved to hate. Tasha's Cauldron of Everything threw them a life raft. Deft Explorer is a great way to get advantage on initiative, something most rangers really need.
Then comes Favoured Foe. While not amazing, it is a step up from the Ranger's original features. You mark one creature, and get to add 1d4 to your weapon damage rolls against it for the next minute.
The Rogue: Skills, Skills, and More Skills
The Rogue can now use Steady Aim. As a bonus action, you can give yourself advantage on your next attack. This makes the rogue a reliable source of damage, if they need to be.

The Sorcerer: Magical Versatility!
Sorcerers are all about magic. Sorcerous Versatility lets the sorcerer swap out a cantrip for another one on a long rest. Need Fire Bolt when you have Ray of Frost? Here you go!
The Warlock: Invocations Galore
The Warlock is all about Invocations. Eldritch Versatility lets you change an invocation at level up! If you don't need something, then change it out for something new!
The Wizard: Magical Versatility!
Wizards are similar to Sorcerers. Cantrip Formulas lets the wizard change out cantrips at level up. With their books, they can also learn rituals with Ritual Casting. Never before have wizards been this versatile.
So there you have it! Tasha's Optional Class Features – a smorgasbord of delightful options to make your D&D characters even more unique and powerful. Just remember, with great power comes great responsibility…and the occasional need to explain to your DM why your Barbarian is suddenly fluent in Elvish. Happy adventuring!
