Everyone loves Sara Crewe. She's kind, generous, and has a ridiculously overactive imagination. But sometimes, I wonder…is she too perfect?

Seriously, who imagines diamond mines to cope with scrubbing floors? I’d probably just be fantasizing about winning the lottery. A slightly more relatable dream, right?

And don’t even get me started on the imaginary feasts. I get being hungry, believe me. But conjuring up elaborate banquets in your head? Seems a bit…much.

Miss Minchin: The Villain We Love to Hate (a little)

Let’s be honest, Miss Minchin is the villain everyone loves to hate. She’s cruel, greedy, and has a permanent scowl etched on her face. But is she entirely without reason?

Hear me out! Suddenly, this incredibly wealthy girl arrives at her school. She's practically dripping diamonds. Then the girl loses everything? I mean, that's gotta be stressful for a headmistress running a business!

Maybe Miss Minchin wasn't the BEST at handling it. Okay, she was terrible. But a little bit of empathy is needed. Maybe. Okay, maybe not.

The Power of Imagination: A Blessing or a Curse?

Sara’s imagination is her superpower. It allows her to endure hardship and maintain her dignity. We're constantly told it's a fantastic thing.

But it also feels a tad…escapist? Is she really dealing with her problems, or just pretending they don't exist? Just a thought!

Maybe a little grounding in reality wouldn't hurt. Just saying.

Becky: The Real Hero?

While Sara is busy being a princess in disguise, let’s spare a thought for Becky. She does the actual hard work! She's always cleaning, always loyal and always kind.

Becky doesn’t have elaborate fantasies or a secret fortune waiting to be discovered. She just gets on with it, day after day.

Isn't there a case to be made that she's the real unsung hero of the story? I think so!

The Ending: A Little Too Convenient?

Okay, so Sara conveniently finds her father’s best friend living next door. He just happens to be ridiculously wealthy and ready to shower her with gifts. Seriously?

The whole thing feels a bit too perfectly packaged, doesn’t it? A little too convenient, even for a children's book.

Couldn't Sara have, I don't know, worked her way up from poverty? Or started a successful business selling imaginary biscuits? Something a bit more…realistic?

Is Sara Crewe Overrated?

Am I saying Sara Crewe is a terrible character? Absolutely not! But I do think she might be a tad overrated. There, I said it!

She's lovely and inspiring, sure. But let’s not forget the other characters in the story. The ones who are just trying to get by.

Maybe it's time to revisit "A Little Princess" with a slightly more critical eye. And maybe, just maybe, appreciate Becky a little more.

After all, wouldn't it be great to have a friend who can actually clean a room rather than just imagine one? Just my two cents.
