Northeastern Early Action Decision Date

Northeastern Early Action Decision Date

Okay, so you applied Early Action to Northeastern, huh? Smart move! Now comes the agonizing part: the wait. The eternal wait. I feel you. Seriously. I’ve been there, done that, bought the t-shirt (which, incidentally, I spilled coffee on. College life, am I right?).

But let’s cut to the chase. You want to know when those sweet, sweet (or potentially devastating) decisions drop. When will you know if you’re heading to Boston to brave those legendary Northeastern winters?

Generally speaking, Northeastern aims to release their Early Action decisions around mid-December. Yeah, I know, "mid-December" is about as specific as saying "sometime next year." But that's usually the ballpark figure. Think anywhere from the 10th to the 18th, give or take a few days. It's like waiting for Santa, but instead of presents, you get…a college acceptance (or a deferral. We're manifesting the acceptance, though!).

Important PSA: Don't obsessively refresh your portal every five seconds. I know, I know, easier said than done. But trust me, your F5 key will thank you. And you'll probably be less stressed. Maybe. (Okay, probably not less stressed, but maybe just a slightly different flavor of stressed?)

How to Survive the Wait

So, mid-December… that’s the target. What do you do to keep your sanity between now and then? Good question! Here’s my highly scientific, rigorously tested (okay, totally made up) list of survival tips:

1. Distraction is your friend. This is where hobbies come in handy. Remember that guitar you bought and then abandoned after three lessons? Dust it off! Bingewatch a new show! Become a master origami artist! (Just maybe don't start juggling chainsaws. Trust me on this one.)

2. Spend time with people who don't ask about college. These people are gold. Cherish them. Protect them at all costs. Seriously, Aunt Mildred doesn't need to know you applied to ten different schools and are currently experiencing existential dread. Change the subject! Talk about the weather! Talk about…anything!

3. Focus on what you can control. Your college application is done. The essays are submitted. The letters of recommendation are…well, somewhere (hopefully glowing). Now is the time to focus on your grades, your extracurriculars, and just generally being awesome. Colleges like to see that you're still working hard, even after you've applied.

4. Remember that it's not the end of the world. Okay, dramatic, I know. But seriously, getting rejected from your dream school doesn't define you. There are so many amazing colleges out there, and you'll find the right fit. Plus, RD is right around the corner, and you've already got a killer application ready to go!

5. Breathe. Seriously. Inhale. Exhale. Repeat. Meditation apps are your friend. Or just find a quiet place and listen to some calming music. Or yell into a pillow. Whatever works for you.

6. Check Northeastern's website. This might seem obvious, but double-check Northeastern's admissions website for any official announcements about the decision release date. Sometimes they'll give a slightly more specific timeframe. But, you know, don't expect a countdown timer. (Wouldn’t that be amazing though?)

The Big Day

When the day finally arrives, try to have a plan. Do you want to check your decision alone? With your family? Surrounded by friends? (Maybe have a backup plan in case the decision isn't what you hoped for. Ice cream always helps.)

Don't feel pressured to post your decision on social media. This is a big one. It's your decision, and you don't owe anyone an explanation. Do what makes you feel comfortable. And remember, everyone else is just as stressed as you are (or jealous that you got in!).

And finally, whatever happens, be proud of yourself. You worked hard to get to this point. You navigated the confusing world of college applications. You're amazing! Now go celebrate (or commiserate) responsibly.

Good luck! I'm rooting for you! Now go do something fun to take your mind off things. You deserve it. And, hey, if you get in, maybe I'll see you on campus. I'll be the one with the coffee-stained Northeastern t-shirt.
