Movie Without Penny Sacred Games

Movie Without Penny Sacred Games

Okay, confession time. Ready for a potentially controversial take? Here it is: Sacred Games, but without Penny!

Gasp! I know, I know. Some of you are already sharpening your knives. You're probably thinking, "But she was integral to the plot!" And you might be right. But just hear me out.

Let’s face it, Sacred Games was already a wild ride. Ganesh Gaitonde, the notorious gangster, was dropping cryptic clues left and right. Sartaj Singh, our perpetually stressed cop, was chasing shadows. And then… Penny!

Suddenly, the narrative took a detour through a world of alternative medicine, spiritual gurus, and… well, let’s just say questionable practices. It felt a little like ordering a spicy biryani and finding a raisin in it. Unexpected, maybe not entirely unpleasant, but… why?

The "Guru" Problem

Look, I get it. Guruji's ashram was supposed to be this ominous, central point. It housed secrets, prophecies, and a whole lot of impending doom. But Penny's journey there? It sometimes felt… meandering.

Were we really invested in her personal enlightenment? Or were we just waiting for her to reveal some vital piece of information that would help Sartaj save Mumbai (again)?

Don't get me wrong, the actress did a great job. But the storyline itself felt a little detached from the gritty, Mumbai-underworld vibe that made the first season so captivating. It was like adding a sprinkle of yoga retreat to a hardboiled crime drama.

More Sartaj, Please!

Maybe this is just me, but I could have used more Sartaj. More of his internal struggles. More of his desperate attempts to piece together the puzzle. More of that amazing head tilt he does when he's really confused (which, let's be honest, was pretty much all the time).

Imagine if that time spent with Penny was instead devoted to fleshing out other characters. Perhaps exploring more of Gaitonde's backstory. Or diving deeper into the political machinations behind the impending apocalypse. The possibilities are endless!

Instead, we got… a lot of chanting. And cryptic pronouncements. And a somewhat confusing exploration of Naked trust.

Look, I'm not saying it was bad. It just felt… different. Like a completely different show snuck into the middle of Sacred Games.

The Unpopular Opinion Award

So, there you have it. My unpopular opinion. Sacred Games, minus a significant chunk of Penny's storyline, could have been even tighter, more focused, and ultimately, more impactful.

Maybe it would have allowed the series to explore the themes of power, religion, and societal decay with even more nuance. Maybe it would have given us even more reason to bite our nails and shout at the television screen.

In the end, it's just a matter of taste. Some loved the Penny storyline. Some, like me, found it a bit… much.

And hey, isn't that what makes TV so great? We can all have our own opinions, even if they're a little bit sacrilegious (pun intended!).

So, what do you think? Am I completely off base? Or are you secretly nodding along, thinking, "Yeah, she might have a point…"

Let the debate begin!

Just promise me you won't send Guruji after me.
