Let Me Tell Ya Bout My Best Friend

Let's talk about something important. Something near and dear to all our hearts. Friendship!
Specifically, my best friend. And maybe, just maybe, a slightly controversial take on besties.
The Undisputed Champion of Friendships
We all have 'em. Those ride-or-die buddies. The people who know our deepest, darkest secrets. Right?
Must Read
But here's where my opinion gets spicy. Are best friends always meant to be forever?
I dare to say... maybe not. Prepare for the shockwaves.
Seasons Change, and So Do Best Friends
Think about your favorite sweater. You loved it. You cherished it.
Then, BAM! A hole appears. Or, gasp, the color clashes with your new vibe. You move on!
Friendships? Sometimes, they're the same. It's okay!
Now, before you grab your pitchforks, hear me out. It's not about being flaky.

It's about growth. We evolve. Our needs shift. Our interests morph.
And sometimes, our best friend... well, they don't evolve with us.
The Real Definition of Best Friend Material
My personal definition of a best friend? It's someone who supports you right now.
Someone who gets you. Someone who makes you laugh until your stomach hurts.
Notice I didn't say "for the next fifty years."
I've had different best friends during different phases of my life. Elementary school? Totally different bestie than in college.

And my current best friend probably won't be the same when I'm, like, knitting in a rocking chair. Maybe.
That doesn't diminish the value of those past friendships. It just means we served our purpose in each other's lives at that time.
The Beauty of Evolving Bonds
Think of it as leveling up in a video game. You need different armor for different bosses.
Your best friend is your armor for the current boss you're facing in life. Intense, right?
Some friendships are meant to last a lifetime. Others are meant to teach you a valuable lesson and then gently fade away.
And that's perfectly fine. It’s not a failure. It's just...life.
It’s not about tossing people aside. It's about recognizing when a relationship has run its course, and allowing space for new connections to bloom.

So, Who's My Current Best Friend?
Glad you asked! Currently, it's Sarah. She understands my obsession with true crime podcasts.
And she doesn’t judge my questionable life choices (much). Thanks, Sarah!
But next year? Who knows! Maybe it'll be someone completely different. Maybe it will still be her!
The point is, I'm open to the possibility. I'm not clinging to some outdated notion of what a best friend "should" be.
I'm embracing the fluidity of relationships and appreciating the people who are in my corner today.
A Final Thought on Forever
Forever is a long time. And putting that kind of pressure on any relationship is a recipe for disaster.

Instead of striving for "forever," let's focus on "for now."
Let's appreciate the people who bring joy, support, and laughter into our lives in this moment.
Because, let's be honest, who even knows what tomorrow will bring? Embrace the now.
So, go hug your current best friend. Or text them a funny meme. Or just tell them you appreciate them.
And remember, it's okay if they're not your best friend forever. What matters is that they're your best friend right now.
What do you think? Am I totally off base? Or are you secretly nodding along in agreement? Let me know!
Maybe we'll even become best friends. But no promises.
