I have a theory. A slightly unpopular one, maybe. But hear me out.

Is it just me, or does the airport exchange rate seem… elevated? Like, suspiciously high? It’s almost as if they know you're a captive audience.

You're in a rush. You need euros, or yen, or whatever exotic currency awaits you. They've got you.

The Urgency Trap

Think about it. You just landed in Paris. You're practically drooling at the thought of croissants and the Eiffel Tower.

All require more effort than simply strolling up to the brightly lit booth after baggage claim. And that's precisely why the airport exchange thrives.

Or just use your credit card and face the fees. Sigh. Vacation spending is really complicated!

So, are airport exchange rates higher? I think so. I'm prepared to defend this unpopular opinion to the death (or at least until my next international flight).

Next time you're tempted to exchange at the airport, take a deep breath. Do a quick mental calculation. Ask yourself, "Am I being taken for a ride?"
