I'm Not Superstitious Just A Little Stitious

I'm Not Superstitious Just A Little Stitious

Okay, let's be honest. We all have our quirks. Some people alphabetize their spice racks. Others wear the same socks for every important meeting. Me? I'm not superstitious. Nope. Not at all. Just… a little stitious.

The "Stitious" Spectrum

There’s a whole spectrum, you see. On one end, you've got the full-blown believers. Black cats? Avoid! Broken mirrors? Seven years bad luck, minimum! Walking under ladders? Absolutely not! They’re probably wearing a rabbit's foot and knocking on wood as we speak.

Then, there's the other end. The purely rational. These are the people who laugh at chain emails and confidently walk under scaffolding. Good for them, I guess. But are they really living?

And then there’s us. The "a little stitious" crew. We're the ones who say things like, "I don't believe in that, but… just in case…" We tread carefully. We hedge our bets. We know deep down it's probably all nonsense. But what if it isn’t?

My Stitious Confessions

I have a few confessions. I avoid stepping on cracks in the sidewalk. Not always, mind you. Only when I'm feeling particularly vulnerable. Like, if I have a job interview or am about to ask my boss for a raise. Is it logical? No. Does it give me a tiny, almost imperceptible boost of confidence? Maybe.

Then there's the whole “lucky socks” situation. I own a pair of socks that I’ve worn for every significant presentation I’ve given in the last five years. Have they actually helped me succeed? Probably not. But the thought of giving a presentation without them? Unthinkable! It’s like going into battle unarmed.

And don’t even get me started on knocking on wood. It’s practically a reflex. Compliment something – “Wow, I haven’t gotten sick all winter!” – knock knock knock. Just being safe. Can't tempt fate, you know?

As Michael Scott from The Office so eloquently put it, "I'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitious." He gets it!

The Logic (or Lack Thereof)

I know, I know. It's ridiculous. But here's my theory. Maybe these little rituals aren't about controlling the universe. Maybe they're about controlling ourselves. Maybe stepping over cracks gives me a sense of agency. Maybe wearing those lucky socks provides a placebo effect, boosting my self-assurance.

Or maybe I’m just slightly bonkers. But honestly, who isn’t? We all have our quirks, our little routines, our things that make us feel just a tiny bit more in control of a chaotic world.

Embrace the "Stitious"

So, the next time you see someone avoiding a black cat or knocking on wood, don't judge. They're not necessarily crazy. They're just… a little stitious. And maybe, just maybe, a little bit happier because of it.

Besides, what's the harm? A little extra caution never hurt anyone. Unless you're constantly tripping over yourself trying to avoid sidewalk cracks. Then maybe it's time for therapy. Or at least a new pair of shoes.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a lucky penny to go find. I heard heads up is good luck. Tails up? Well, I don't even want to think about it. Gotta flip it over, just in case.
