How Many Chapters In Uncharted 3

Okay, let's talk Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. Remember it? Sand, spiders, and a whole lotta shouting "Sulllllly!" Good times, right?
But here's the thing. The question on everyone's lips, or maybe just mine because I’m a bit obsessive, is: how many chapters are there REALLY?
Officially? The internet screams 22 chapters. Wikipedia, gaming sites, your know-it-all cousin who beat it on Crushing difficulty… they all say 22.
Must Read
But Is It Really 22?
Now, I'm not saying they're wrong. Technically, they aren't. The game does divide itself into 22 numbered sections. You see the little chapter title pop up on screen.
However…and this is my potentially unpopular opinion…some of those chapters are, shall we say, a bit…padded. Like, "walk five steps and watch a cutscene" padded. Or "climb this tiny wall" padded.
Think about it. Some chapters are basically glorified loading screens. Remember that chapter where you're just walking through the desert with Salim? It's beautiful, sure. Atmospheric. But…a whole chapter? Really?

I'm not saying these chapters aren't important for the story. They are. They build the tension. They give you a chance to appreciate the graphics (which, let's be honest, still hold up). But in terms of actual gameplay, some are… brief.
So, my question is: Should we count those super-short sections as full-fledged chapters? Or are we being generous?
My Controversial Take
Here's where I might lose some of you. I propose a new system. A chapter only counts if you actually do something significant in it. A fight, a puzzle, a major exploration moment. You know, something that makes you feel like you actually accomplished something besides holding forward on the analog stick.

Using this highly scientific and totally subjective method, I reckon we could whittle down those 22 chapters to a much leaner, meaner number. Maybe 15? 16 tops?
Think of it like this: if you blinked, and the chapter was over, it doesn't count. That desert walking chapter? Doesn't count. The chapter where you're just falling through the air? Barely counts.
"But what about the story?" you cry. "Those chapters are essential for the narrative!"
I hear you. But I'm talking purely about a gameplay perspective. It's about bang for your buck, action-wise. And some of those chapters just don't deliver the action goods.

Am I Alone In This?
Maybe I'm crazy. Maybe I'm just bitter that I can beat Uncharted 3 faster than my friend thinks I can. Maybe I need to get out more. But I stand by my assessment.
Uncharted 3, while a fantastic game, might be slightly overstating its chapter count. It's like when a restaurant lists "20 layers of chocolate" on their cake description, but half of those layers are just crumbs.
So, next time you play Uncharted 3, take a closer look at those chapter titles. Ask yourself: Did I actually do anything? Or did I just watch Nate stumble around for five minutes?

And if you agree with me, let me know. Misery loves company. Plus, it would be nice to know I'm not the only one who's slightly suspicious of those "22 chapters." Maybe we can start a movement. A Chapter Truth movement. Or something less dramatic.
Ultimately, does the number of chapters really matter? Probably not. But it's fun to debate, right? And anything that gets us talking about Uncharted is a good thing in my book.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go replay Uncharted 3 and meticulously count the "real" chapters. For science!
