Okay, let’s talk about something near and dear to my heart. Or, at least, near and dear to my mildly inconvenienced soul. It's about those business cards you order online. Specifically, the ones from FedEx Office.

You’re all excited. You’ve designed the perfect card. It’s got your name, your ridiculously impressive title (Assistant Regional Manager of Miscellaneous Things, anyone?), and a QR code that leads directly to your cat's Instagram. You click "Order!"

Then comes the magical moment. The email arrives. “Your Business Cards are Ready for Pickup!” Cue the confetti… right?

The Allure of Convenience... Maybe

The email helpfully informs you that your cards are waiting at your local FedEx Office. Great! You picture a swift in-and-out operation. A friendly face, a quick scan, and you’re on your way, armed with a stack of networking gold.

Except… that’s rarely how it goes, is it?

I have a confession. I might… might… have an unpopular opinion about picking up business cards at FedEx Office.

Hear me out.

It starts with the store itself. You walk in. It’s… busy. Always. There’s usually a line, a palpable sense of urgency, and the faint scent of toner in the air. You're instantly transported back to the day before that massive presentation was due in college.

You sidle up to the counter, feeling slightly sheepish. You announce, “Hi! I’m here to pick up some business cards.”

This is where the adventure truly begins.

The Search Begins (and Rarely Ends Quickly)

The FedEx employee, bless their heart, is usually juggling approximately twelve different tasks at once. They politely ask for your name. You provide it.

They type. They click. They squint at the screen.

“Hmm,” they say, the word echoing with the weight of existential dread. “I don’t see it.”

My internal monologue kicks in. "But the email! The email said it was ready! I have proof! I could show you! ... No, stay calm. Deep breaths."

The employee starts looking through stacks of boxes. They disappear into the back room, emerging moments later with a slightly bewildered expression.

Meanwhile, the line behind you grows. You can practically feel their collective sigh of impatience radiating off their bodies. You start to sweat. You consider faking a sudden, debilitating illness.

Finally, after what feels like an eternity, they find them! Tucked away, hiding behind a ream of paper or a suspiciously large roll of packing tape.

“Here you go!” they announce, handing you the box with a relieved smile.

The Final Hurdle: Self-Checkout (Seriously?)

But wait! There's more! Now you have to… check yourself out? For something you already paid for? This is where my brain starts to short-circuit.

You scan the barcode. The machine beeps aggressively. You fumble with the touchscreen. You awkwardly try to figure out how to “finalize” the transaction without actually paying anything.

All while the line behind you continues to grow, fueled by your apparent inability to operate a simple self-checkout machine.

Finally, freedom! You escape the FedEx Office, clutching your precious business cards like a lottery winner. You vow to never need a business card again. (You will.)

So, here’s my unpopular opinion: I’d almost prefer they just mail the darn things to my house. I’d trade the “convenience” of in-store pickup for the sweet, sweet certainty of a package arriving at my doorstep, even if it takes an extra day or two.

Because, honestly, the FedEx Office pickup experience often feels less like a quick errand and more like an Olympic sport. One I’m perpetually unqualified to compete in.

And don't even get me started on the time they couldn't find my order and I had to show them the email on my phone proving it existed. I swear, they looked at me like I was performing witchcraft.

Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm cursed with a peculiar form of FedEx-related misfortune. But if you’ve ever experienced the “joy” of business card pickup, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
