Everyday We Stray Further From God

Okay, hear me out. I'm not saying I'm some kind of theological expert. But sometimes, don't you feel like we're all just…drifting away?
The Case of the Vanishing Values
Remember when sharing was caring? Now it's all about hoarding that extra avocado. Or that perfectly situated parking spot. What would Jesus do? Definitely wouldn’t hog the handicapped space.
Used to be, a handshake was your word. Nowadays, you need a lawyer for everything. Trust is so last century.
Must Read
The Smartphone Situation
Let’s talk phones. We're all glued to these glowing rectangles. We're constantly scrolling, liking, and judging.
We're more connected to strangers online than our own families at the dinner table. Family dinners? What are those?
I bet Moses didn't have to deal with push notifications interrupting the Ten Commandments. Could you imagine?
The Rise of the Influencer
These days, everyone's chasing clout. We want followers, likes, and that sweet, sweet validation. It’s like a modern-day golden calf, but digital.

Forget leading a life of service, the new aspiration is to be a millionaire peddling detox teas. Pretty sure Buddha wouldn't approve.
Authenticity is out, carefully curated facades are in. We're all just putting on a show for the internet audience. And what about the real you?
Consumerism: Our New Religion
Black Friday is practically a holy day. People camping out for deals on TVs? It's a modern-day pilgrimage, but instead of enlightenment, you get a slightly cheaper Samsung.
We worship brands, not deities. Our closets are overflowing, but our souls are often empty. Is that really fulfilling?

Remember the story of the rich young ruler? He walked away sad because he couldn't give up his possessions. Sounds awfully familiar, right?
The Art of the Humblebrag
We've perfected the art of bragging while pretending to be humble. “Ugh, I’m so tired from my volunteer work in Bali. First world problems, am I right?”
It’s like we're trying to convince everyone (and ourselves) that we're good people, but also incredibly successful. A delicate balancing act of self-promotion and virtue signaling.
I'm fairly certain Mother Teresa wasn't on Instagram posting about her acts of kindness. She was too busy, you know, actually being kind.
The Instant Gratification Generation
Patience? What's that? We want everything now. We swipe right, we click "buy," we demand instant results.

Waiting is torture. Delays are unacceptable. Maybe that’s why everyone is so stressed out. Even trying to send up a quick prayer.
Think about it: even prayer has been turned into a quick fix, an emergency button for when things go wrong. But shouldn't it be more?
The Echo Chamber Effect
We surround ourselves with people who agree with us. We curate our social media feeds to confirm our own biases.
Dissenting opinions are silenced, opposing viewpoints are demonized. We create little echo chambers where everyone just nods along in agreement. We are all the wiser?

Remember the parable of the Good Samaritan? He helped someone from a completely different group. Maybe we should try listening to someone who doesn't think exactly like us.
So, Where Do We Go From Here?
I'm not saying we're all doomed. And I'm definitely not saying I have all the answers. I'm just pointing out that maybe, just maybe, we could all use a little course correction.
Maybe we could put down our phones for a bit. Maybe we could listen to someone with a different perspective. Maybe we could just be a little kinder to each other.
Or, you know, keep scrolling. It's your call. But hey, at least I made you think about it, right? Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go post this article on social media for all the likes. It's a living, you know. And maybe, just maybe, someone will share it.
