Okay, so picture this: I’m at the grocery store, right? Just trying to grab some avocados (because who can afford to eat out these days?). And the guy in front of me is trying to pay with… wait for it… a dogecoin debit card. A dogecoin debit card! I swear, I almost choked on my own spit. He was dead serious too. The cashier just stared blankly, probably wondering if she’d accidentally wandered into a sci-fi movie. I mean, I'm not saying crypto is evil, but...

It got me thinking, though. Thinking about how utterly, wonderfully, bizarrely weird things have gotten lately. And that, my friends, brings us to the age-old internet lament: Every day we stray further from God.

Now, before you get all up in arms, I’m not necessarily talking about organized religion here. (Although, feel free to interpret it that way if you’re inclined! To each their own, you know?) I'm talking about a general sense of… something. A loss of shared values? A creeping nihilism? An unwavering obsession with cat videos? It's hard to put your finger on, isn't it?

Remember when the biggest problem was dial-up internet and questionable fashion choices? Good times, good times. Those were the days we should've appreciated, am I right? Now we have AI that can write poetry (bad poetry, but still!), people identifying as attack helicopters (no judgement, just… confused), and influencers selling detox teas that probably just make you spend a lot of time in the bathroom.

The internet, bless its digital heart, is probably to blame. It's democratized information, sure, but it's also democratized misinformation, outrage, and the ability to buy a dogecoin debit card. You can find a community for literally anything online, which is great in some ways! But it also means that everyone lives in their own little echo chamber, reinforcing whatever crazy beliefs they already have. Think about that for a second.

Where Did We Go Wrong?

Honestly? I don't know. Maybe it was the invention of reality TV. Maybe it was the rise of social media. Maybe it was that dress that everyone argued about being blue and black (or was it gold and white? The horror!). Whatever it was, something shifted. You gotta give 'em that.

The endless scrolling, the constant need for validation through likes and shares, the inability to have a face-to-face conversation without awkwardly checking your phone every five seconds. We’re so busy chasing likes and clout that we’ve forgotten how to just… be. To appreciate the simple things. To talk to our neighbors. To put down our phones and actually look at the world around us. Remember that time you went camping and actually enjoyed nature? Yeah, me neither. Just kidding! (Mostly.)

So, what’s the answer? I wish I knew. Maybe it’s time to log off. Maybe it’s time to reconnect with our communities. Maybe it’s time to start a support group for people addicted to avocado toast and the internet. (I’d join that, by the way.)

Ultimately, I think it's about finding a balance. Embracing the good things about technology while resisting the urge to completely lose ourselves in the digital void. And maybe, just maybe, remembering that there's more to life than dogecoin debit cards. (No offense to the guy at the grocery store. You do you, boo.)
