I picture him on a remote lake. Fishing rod in hand. No record labels, no microphones, no internet trolls.

Just him, the fish, and maybe a cooler full of...well, I'm not going to speculate. Though I imagine David Allan Coe would have something interesting in that cooler.

A little peace and quiet might do him good. And maybe the world, too.

Okay, before everyone grabs their pitchforks, hear me out. I'm not condoning anything truly awful. But sometimes, I wonder if we're too quick to judge artists.

But a guy can dream! Maybe a little less edge is what we all need.

The Case for Compassion (Even for Outlaws)

Look, at the end of the day, David Allan Coe is a human being. Flawed, sure. But a human being nonetheless.

And human beings deserve a break. Especially those who've spent their lives pushing boundaries (and sometimes, admittedly, crossing the line).

So, let's give the guy a break. Maybe not a free pass for everything, but a little understanding.

Think about it. A quiet cabin in Montana? A secluded beach in Mexico? Perhaps a monastery in Tibet to find his inner peace. (Okay, maybe not Tibet.)

Wherever he goes, I hope he finds some rest. He probably deserves it.

And maybe, just maybe, he'll come back with some new stories to tell. And some new songs to sing. Hopefully slightly less offensive ones!
