Daniel Cormier Vs Jon Jones

Daniel Cormier Vs Jon Jones

Let's talk about Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones. You know, DC and Bones. The rivalry that gave us drama, trash talk, and... well, mostly disappointment for DC fans. (Sorry, DC. We love you!)

These two guys. Oil and water. Cat and dog. Tom and Jerry, if Jerry was ridiculously tall and could kick you in the head. The build-up to their fights was always better than any reality TV show. Seriously, who needed housewives when you had these two going at it?

Okay, unpopular opinion time. Buckle up. I think Jon Jones… is ridiculously talented. I know, I know! Hear me out! Setting aside the… shall we say, "extracurricular activities"... the guy's fighting IQ is through the roof. He's like the chess grandmaster of the octagon, but instead of moving pawns, he's moving elbows.

And Daniel Cormier? A straight-up legend. A two-division champ. An Olympian. The kind of guy you'd want on your side in a bar fight. (Unless Jon Jones was also there. Then, maybe call for backup from a different weight class.)

But here’s the thing. Their fights...were...complicated. Let's just say the results were not always what DC wanted. Twice. And well, you know the rest.

"He's still there. He's still there. He's still the champion!"
Poor DC. He was so close to beating him. So close.

It's tough, right? You want to root for the good guy. And DC is definitely the good guy. He’s the kind of dude who rescues kittens from trees and helps old ladies cross the street. Jon Jones… well, let’s just say his image needed a lot of PR help.

But (and it's a big "but"), that doesn't change the fact that Jones seemed to have DC's number. It's like trying to solve a Rubik's Cube while someone's poking you in the eye. Difficult, to say the least.

I know, I know. I'm probably going to get hate mail for this. People will say I'm a Jones apologist. That I'm blind to his flaws. But look, can't we appreciate a fighter's talent without endorsing their life choices? I'm not saying he's a role model. I'm saying he's a dang good fighter.

The What-Ifs...

Here's where my brain goes into overdrive. What if Jones had kept it all together? What if he hadn't... well, you know... made the choices he made? Would he be the undisputed GOAT? Would DC have finally gotten that win? We'll never know.

Maybe DC would have finally figured out the puzzle. Maybe he would have landed that knockout punch. Maybe... just maybe... he would have silenced all the doubters. But alas, it wasn't meant to be.

Their rivalry is one for the ages. A clash of personalities, styles, and… well, PED controversies. It's a story that will be debated for years to come. Who was the better fighter? Who was the better person? Who was more frustrating to watch?

My (Probably Wrong) Conclusion

Okay, here's my final, controversial take. Jon Jones, at his best, was probably the better fighter against Daniel Cormier. But Daniel Cormier, as a person, is someone we can all aspire to be. He's a class act, a hard worker, and a true champion, inside and outside the octagon. He's also a great commentator.

So, there you have it. My unpopular opinion. Feel free to disagree. Just please, no throwing tomatoes. Unless they're heirloom tomatoes. I like those. And if DC is reading this, I still think you're awesome. And you'd probably still beat me in a wrestling match. Easily.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go watch some old DC fights and try to forget about all the what-ifs. And maybe eat some Popeyes. Because, you know, DC.
