Still Under Review (AKA: We Haven't Looked at It Yet)

This is the default status. It basically means your application is breathing. That's it. Don't get too excited.

Think of it as purgatory. You're not rejected, but you're not hired. You're just... existing in a state of limbo. Enjoy!

My unpopular opinion? "Still Under Review" should be renamed "Please Forget About Us." Harsh, but true.

In Progress (Maybe, Just Maybe, There's Hope)

This could be a good sign. Emphasis on "could." It might mean a human has glanced at your application. Or, you know, a robot.

Don't start planning your victory party yet. But maybe, just maybe, allow yourself a tiny sliver of optimism. One bite-sized piece.

I like to imagine a tiny hiring manager, squinting at my resume under a magnifying glass. Deliberating my fate. Dramatic, I know.

Closed (The Polite Rejection)

Ouch. This one stings. It means they've made a decision. And that decision wasn't you. Time to move on. Pour one out for your dreams.

But hey, don't take it personally! Maybe they weren't ready for your awesomeness. Or maybe someone else just really, really loves burrito bowls.

My advice? Apply again! Persistence is key. Just maybe tweak that cover letter.

Silence (The Rude Rejection)

This is the worst. No closure. Just radio silence. It's like being ghosted by a company. Unprofessional, Grubhub. Unprofessional.

You're left wondering what went wrong. Did I offend someone? Did a rogue pigeon steal my resume? The possibilities are endless.

In this case, it’s best to assume the worst. And then apply to DoorDash. Just kidding (mostly).

My Unsolicited Advice

While you're obsessively checking your Grubhub application status, do something else. Anything else.

Go for a walk. Bake a cake. Binge-watch that show you've been meaning to see. Distract yourself. Your sanity will thank you.

And remember, getting rejected is part of life. It doesn't mean you're not awesome. It just means this particular opportunity wasn't the right fit. Now go get those burrito bowls.
