Buffalo Range Shooting Park

Buffalo Range Shooting Park

Okay, so picture this: me, trying to look all cool and collected, stepping onto the range at Buffalo Range Shooting Park. Let’s just say my previous experience with firearms involved mostly watching action movies and occasionally flinching at firecrackers. But hey, I was ready for an adventure. Or, at least, I thought I was.

Buffalo Range, located somewhere that feels delightfully far from the hustle and bustle (like, maybe you’ll actually see a buffalo… spoiler alert: you probably won't, just lots of happy shooters), is this sprawling outdoor playground for anyone who wants to sling some lead downrange. And I mean anyone. Seriously, I saw everyone from serious-looking dudes with impressive tactical gear to families just looking to have a blast (pun intended!).

First things first: safety. These guys are serious about safety. And rightfully so. You’re dealing with things that go boom, and nobody wants to go home with extra holes they didn’t arrive with. They give you a thorough rundown of the rules, how to handle firearms responsibly, and basically make sure you don’t accidentally shoot your foot off. Which, let’s be honest, is a real possibility for some of us.

Picking Your Poison (or, Weapon of Choice)

Now comes the fun part: choosing your weapon. Buffalo Range has a pretty impressive selection. Handguns, rifles, shotguns… they’ve got it all. I was overwhelmed, like a kid in a candy store, except the candy could potentially put a hole in your car from a mile away.

I opted for a handgun to start. Figured I’d ease my way into things. The instructor, a patient soul who clearly saw the sheer terror in my eyes, showed me the ropes. Stance, grip, sight alignment… it was like learning a new language. A language that involved loud noises and projectiles.

Fun fact: Did you know that the term "powder keg" comes from the barrels used to store gunpowder? I learned that later, completely unrelated to my shooting experience. But it felt relevant, okay?

Bang for Your Buck (and Your Ears)

The first shot? Let’s just say it wasn’t exactly bullseye material. More like “somewhere in the general vicinity of the target” material. But hey, I hit paper! Baby steps, people, baby steps.

The recoil was… surprising. It's not the movies, folks. Your arm doesn’t fly back dramatically. More like a firm push. But still, that first shot is a rush. A loud, exhilarating rush. Ear protection is highly recommended. Unless you're going for that "permanent ringing in your ears" aesthetic.

As I got more comfortable (and less likely to accidentally point the gun at my own head), I started to actually hit the target with some regularity. Okay, maybe not consistently, but there were moments of glory. Moments where I felt like a total action hero. Until I remembered I still had to pay for the ammo.

Pro tip: Bring a friend! Not only is it more fun to share the experience (and laugh at each other’s terrible aim), but you can also split the cost of ammo. Because let's be honest, this hobby isn't exactly cheap. Think of it as an investment in your inner Clint Eastwood.

Beyond the Bang: More Than Just Shooting

Buffalo Range isn’t just about blasting away at paper targets (though that’s definitely a big part of it). They also offer different shooting bays for various calibers. There are covered areas for inclement weather, so rain or shine, you can keep shooting. Think of it as the most intense form of stress relief ever invented. Forget yoga, give me a 9mm!

I even saw some people practicing with clay targets. I didn’t try it myself (my ego couldn't handle another potential failure), but it looked incredibly satisfying to shatter those orange discs into a million pieces.

The Verdict: Would I Go Back?

Absolutely! Despite my initial apprehension and moments of sheer panic, I had a fantastic time at Buffalo Range Shooting Park. It's a great place to learn a new skill, challenge yourself, and unleash your inner action star. Plus, it's a whole lot safer than trying to recreate those movie scenes in your backyard (don't do that, seriously).

Just remember to follow the safety rules, listen to the instructors, and maybe bring a sense of humor. Because you’re probably going to miss the target. A lot. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right? And who knows, maybe one day you'll be hitting bullseyes like a pro. Or at least, like someone who's watched a lot of action movies.

So, if you're looking for a unique and exciting experience, give Buffalo Range a shot (another pun! I'm on fire!). You might just surprise yourself.
