Black Dragon Ball Z Characters

Black Dragon Ball Z Characters

Okay, let's talk Dragon Ball Z. We all love it, right? Epic battles, screaming power-ups, and hair that defies gravity. But something's always bugged me.

Where are all the Black characters? Seriously! I know, I know, it's a Japanese anime. But hear me out. This is just a lighthearted thought.

Consider this: Krillin. He's short. He's bald. He's got six dots on his forehead. And he's one of Goku's best buds! Love Krillin, by the way. Total underdog.

Then there's Piccolo. Green skin, pointy ears, antennas. He's literally from another planet. But no significant Black representation? Hmmm...

The Obvious (and Maybe Not-So-Obvious) Choices

Let's start with Mr. Popo. Now, before everyone jumps down my throat, I'm not saying anything bad about him. He's a helpful (if slightly odd) assistant to Kami. BUT... his design isn't exactly the most progressive, is it? It's...problematic. Let's just leave it at that.

Then we have Uub. Finally, right? A reincarnation of Kid Buu, but... human! And darker-skinned! Yay! Except... he shows up at the VERY end. And we barely get to know him. Missed opportunity, in my opinion. Big time.

I'm not saying every anime needs to be a perfect reflection of the real world. I get artistic license. But Dragon Ball Z built a universe with all sorts of crazy creatures and beings. Couldn't they have snuck in a few more characters who looked like, well, us?

My Unpopular Opinion (Brace Yourselves)

Okay, here's where I might lose some of you. I think some existing characters could have been designed with more diverse features. Let's imagine.

What if Piccolo had been designed with darker skin? He's already green! He's already alien! A little melanin wouldn't have hurt. Imagine Piccolo with a cool, deep brown tone. It would have been awesome.

Or what if Android 18, with her blonde hair and blue eyes, had been given a different look? Maybe darker hair, different features. Just a thought!

I'm not saying erase anyone's race or change their entire backstory. I'm just suggesting some subtle tweaks could have made a big difference. It’s about representation, even in a fictional world.

Think about it: these characters are role models for kids. Seeing someone who looks like you kicking butt on screen matters. It's empowering.

The What-If Scenarios are Endless

Imagine a powerful Saiyan warrior with braids. Or a brilliant scientist with dark skin. The possibilities are endless!

I know, I know. It's just a cartoon. But cartoons shape our perceptions. They influence how we see the world and each other. So, maybe, just maybe, we can dream of a future Dragon Ball series with a more diverse cast.

Maybe Dragon Ball Super took some steps, but still! The Z era is iconic.

Don’t get me wrong, I adore Dragon Ball Z. It's a classic. But it's okay to acknowledge its shortcomings. It’s okay to want better representation. Even in a show about guys shooting energy blasts from their hands.

What do you think? Am I crazy? Let me know! I’m ready for the debate (but please be nice!).

Maybe one day, we'll get a truly diverse Dragon Ball universe. Until then, I'll keep dreaming (and re-watching those epic fight scenes).
