Tom Hardy is Max, and Charlize Theron is Imperator Furiosa, a total badass who's trying to liberate a group of women from the clutches of a tyrannical warlord. The visuals are stunning, the action is relentless, and the whole thing feels like a fever dream in the best possible way. If you need a jolt of adrenaline, this is your fix. Just try not to drive quite like that on your way to work.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

Time for something a little more...adventurous! Forget the gritty realism for a moment and join Indiana Jones on his quest for the Ark of the Covenant. Raiders of the Lost Ark is pure cinematic escapism. Harrison Ford is iconic as the whip-cracking archaeologist who's afraid of snakes (which, let's be honest, is perfectly reasonable).

From booby-trapped temples to thrilling chases, this movie has it all. And the special effects, while a little dated now, still hold up surprisingly well. Plus, who doesn't love watching Nazis get their faces melted off? (Don't answer that). Seriously, if you haven't seen this, you're missing out on a vital piece of movie history. The Matrix (1999)

Woah. Yeah, I had to. The Matrix is a mind-bending action masterpiece that combines martial arts, cyberpunk, and philosophical questions about reality. Keanu Reeves is Neo, a computer hacker who discovers that the world he knows is actually a simulated reality created by machines.

The action sequences are groundbreaking, the special effects are still impressive, and the story will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew. Plus, it gave us the iconic bullet-time effect, which was ripped off by pretty much every action movie for the next decade. Red pill or blue pill? I say both, then watch the movie again. Just remember, there is no spoon.

John Wick (2014)

Okay, let's get back to the modern stuff. John Wick is pure, unadulterated action. Keanu Reeves is back, and this time he's an ex-hitman who's forced out of retirement after some thugs steal his car and kill his puppy. (Seriously, don't mess with a man's puppy!).

What follows is a ballet of bullets and broken bones. The action is incredibly stylish and brutal, and the world-building is surprisingly deep. John Wick revived Keanu's action star status and spawned a whole franchise. And it's all thanks to a very, very bad day. So, if you ever see John Wick, just... smile and wave. Don't even think about touching his car or his dog. Seriously.
