Okay, let's talk Nero Wolfe. Specifically, Season 1, Episode 6. "Door to Death." You know the one.

The Case of the… Slightly Boring Guest List?

The episode's about a cosmetics company. A murder happens at a party. Wolfe's hired, obviously. It's all standard fare.

And that's maybe my problem. It's too standard. Hear me out!

The Usual Suspects, But Less Sparkle

The characters are… fine. We've got the jealous ex. The ambitious rival. The stressed-out business partner.

But none of them really pop. Compare them to the suspects in "The Golden Spiders"! No contest!

Don't get me wrong, everyone delivers their lines. They just don't stick in my head later. It's like beige wallpaper. It's there, but it isn't exciting.

Am I alone in this feeling? I feel I am the only one with that feeling.

Archie's Charm: Carrying the Weight?

Archie Goodwin is, as always, fantastic. Archie keeps things moving. His sarcasm is top-notch.

He's the reason I don't completely tune out. His back-and-forth with Wolfe is pure gold. He’s my favorite for sure.

But even Archie can't single-handedly elevate a slightly dull plot. He's trying, bless him. He really is!

Wolfe's Wisdom: A Bit Muffled?

Nero Wolfe himself is... well, being Wolfe. He stays in his chair. He tends his orchids. He demands excellent food.

But his deductions feel less brilliant this time. Maybe it's the less-than-stellar clues. Or maybe I’m just being picky.

I just didn’t feel his aha! moment was as impactful. It felt a bit… rushed? Like the writers needed to wrap things up quickly.

The Unpopular Opinion: It's Still Nero Wolfe!

Okay, okay. I'm being harsh. It's still a Nero Wolfe mystery. That means it's still pretty good!

Even a "meh" Nero Wolfe episode is better than a lot of other detective shows. The writing is sharp. The acting is solid.

And the world-building is always top-tier. I love that we are always reminded of Nero Wolfe's eccentricities and Archie Goodwin's wit.

It's comfort food television. You know what you're getting. And that’s not always a bad thing.

The Verdict: Skip It? Definitely Not!

Would I recommend skipping "Door to Death?" Absolutely not. It’s part of the whole tapestry.

But if you're new to the series, maybe start somewhere else. "The Golden Spiders," perhaps? Or "Too Many Cooks"?

Just manage your expectations. It’s not the best, but it’s far from the worst. It’s just… there.
